Grantham draw with Gambit Chess Club in latest match
Grantham 2 were in action at home on Wednesday evening and saw an interesting match against Gambit 2 from Nottingham. On board 1, Ivan David had a 'Grandmaster draw' against Drag Sudar. Although, in Drag's words, the play was anything but Grandmaster quality. On Board 2, Chris Holt outplayed John Tassi from the opening but was unable to break down stubborn resistance in time trouble and another draw ensued. Trevor Palmer was beaten by Richard Edwards in a very sharp encounter. Ben Mason and Keith Roper 'bored each other to death' to quote Drag so another draw. That left Rona Allgood on board 5 to impressively convert a good position to victory and that left the overall result as 2.5 points apiece.
