Keith Arkell has
been a Grandmaster since 1995. He won the English Chess Championship in 2008.
In 2014 he was European Senior (50+) Champion, and, later in the year, tied for
first in the World Senior (50+) Championship. A popular figure on the weekend circuit
who is known for his exceptional skills in the endgame

Simultaneous Display Details:
– Challengers choose their colour
– Normal simul format: players make their move in turn as the simul-giver arrives
– 2 ‘passes’ allowed
– When there are 4 games left, they will be played out as 4 simultaneous 5-minute games
– No upper rating limit
– No age limit
– Book prizes for the best games (one each : junior/adults)

UK Chess Challenge VAT Petition
The UK Chess challenge, the premier chess competition for schools in the UK, has a petition running to exempt chess from paying VAT (in line with other sports). The challenge, which has been run annually for 20 years and included hundreds of thousands of children, has been given a VAT bill of £300,000 from HMRC and will have to be wound up should it be liable to pay.
